Gaithersburg Labor Day 2018: Info For 80th Annual Parade

The ever-popular Gaithersburg Labor Day Parade will return to the streets of Old Towne on Monday, Sept. 3.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — The 80th annual Gaithersburg Labor Day Parade will return to the streets of Old Towne on Monday, Sept. 3.

This rain or shine event includes dance groups, antique cars and fire trucks, clowns, high school marching bands, an assortment of community groups, equestrian units and more.

The Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council will hand out the annual Labor Day Parade coin from their trolley. Other parade features include: bands and dancers from countries like Bolivia, Panama, and China; high school groups from around the county marching; athletic organizations; cheerleaders and more.

Guests can enjoy food vendors at Olde Town Plaza and the parking lot next to the Gaithersburg Washington Grove Fire Station. Treats will also be sold on Russell Avenue.

The parade will kick off at 1 p.m. near the intersection of Melvin Street and E. Diamond Ave. Free parking is available at Lakeforest Mall Transit Center and free shuttles will bring attendees to Gaithersburg Elementary School, a short walk to the start of the parade.

Limited free parking is available in the Olde Towne parking garage at the corner of Olde Towne and Summit Avenues. Accessible parking for those with disability placards or plates is available behind the Victor Litz store on the north side of Diamond Avenue and the Wells Robertson parking lot behind the Shell Station on Summit Avenue.

For those who wish to view the parade in the shade along Russel Avenue, walk to that location from Lakeforest Mall Transit Center by way of Odendhal Avenue, city officials said.
