GAITHERSBURG, MD — This cold snap isn't going away any time soon. Montgomery County residents will see fierce wind chills Thursday, making it feel like 0 degrees outside.

Montgomery County officials advise residents going outside to wear a hat, scarf or mask, mittens and several layers.

In nearby D.C., a Cold Emergency Alert is in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Friday Night: A chance of light snow after 1am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 22. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday: Light snow likely, mainly before 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 33. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
