Gaithersburg's Big Loss
Gaithersburg's failure to approve Amazon's site is a big economic loss.

It was deeply disappointing when the City of Gaithersburg failed to approve and encourage Amazon to occupy the long empty site off 355, close to Costco. How shortsighted can our city be- foregoing taxes, jobs, economic growth? City of Gaithersburg's excuse was that this is not the best use of the site. Well, that was a shame and a mistake.
Some information just came out on Prince George’s Amazon site in Upper Marlboro. Their success needs to be celebrated, here are a few facts that make it clear what a mistake Gaithersburg made:
- Annual tax revenues to increase from $38,000 to over $200,000 per year.
- Jobs will range from entry level positions paying a minimum of $15 per hour plus benefits, to executive management positions.
This is what Gaithersburg decided to pass up, let’s see how long that site will continue to be vacant.
