Griffith Park Playground Reopens with New Play Pieces

The playground features accessible swings, playcubes, a quattro seesaw, climbers, slides and other features.

From the City of Gaithersburg: The Griffith Park playground on the grounds of City Hall was completely refurbished earlier this spring and is now open for outdoor fun. Also home to a picnic pavilion that can be rented for parties, family reunions and other occasions, the Griffith Park playground features accessible swings, playcubes, a quattro seesaw, climbers, slides and other features that help kids learn and explore.

The $88,000 playground renovation was made possible in part by a $66,000 award through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Program Open Space – Community Parks and Playgrounds Program. The park, named for former Mayor John W. Griffith, sits on nearly eight acres of land, with amenities that also include basketball and tennis courts, an open field and a half-mile pathway.

Griffith Park will be Gaithersburg’s featured spot for National Kids to Parks Day on May 20. During the Gaithersburg Book Festival, which takes place that day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the grounds of City Hall, visitors are encouraged to take photos of themselves enjoying the park, and then e-mail them to chris@parktrust.org #GBF for use on social media. Register in advance at www.kidstoparks.org to be counted in a national tally of park visits. Kids to Parks Day is presented by the National Park Trust.
