Montgomery County Teen Dies In Swimming Accident

Donations are sought for the funeral of a Damascus High School graduate who drowned in a swimming accident in Washington County Friday.

HAGERSTOWN, MD — A teenager from Montgomery County died in a drowning accident near Hagerstown Friday, according to reports.

Emile Victor Alex Pitt Jr., 19, died while swimming with friends, says a GoFundMe page created to pay for funeral expenses.

"Emile was a hometown kid from Damascus, MD," the fundraising page says. "A beloved son, a caring and supportive brother, and a devoted friend."

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office told Montgomery Community Media that Pitt jumped off rocks into a quarry and "became fatigued and drowned."

Pitt played football for Damascus High School and was going into his sophomore year of college. He was studying math and science to become a petroleum engineer at Penn State and Montgomery College, the GoFundMe page says.

"With the emotional pain of this devastating loss it’s hard for anyone to bury a young loved one. Please join the Damascus community in supporting this family in their time of sorrow," the page says.

About $8,500 of the $10,000 goal for funeral costs has been raised as of Tuesday afternoon.
