GAITHERSBURG, MD — Gaithersburg officials on Monday announced that they are limiting city services and canceling programs through April 30, in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus

The virus, "dubbed COVID-19" emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019 and has since infected more than 179,000 people worldwide. As of Sunday, the number of coronavirus cases in Montgomery County has doubled from six to 12, bringing the state's total to 37.

"The City of Gaithersburg remains open for essential business only," Gaithersburg officials said in a statement. "For the health and safety of our residents and employees, services are being limited and/or modified to minimize face to face interaction."
