Report: Hazmat Incident Forces Evacuation At Montgomery County Emergency Call Center

The call center is located in Gaithersburg.

The Montgomery County emergency call center, at 1300 Quince Orchard Blvd. in Gaithersburg, was evacuated Thursday afternoon for a hazardous materials leak, Assistant Chief Scott Graham, a Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman tweeted.

The Gazette reported a hydrogen sulfide leak, caused by a bank of batteries overheating, led to the evacuation.

Graham originally stated it was a carbon monoxide leak.

One person was transported to the hospital "feeling ill," Assistant Chief Edward Radcliffe told The Gazette. The 40-to-50 people in the building at the time of the evacuation were transported to another building in Rockville.
