Gunman Wanted After Shots Fired Near Police In Gaithersburg
Police are searching for someone who fired shots at officers near Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg Wednesday.
GAITHERSBURG, MD — Authorities are searching for a gunman they say opened fire near two officers as they responded to a parking complaint call in Gaithersburg.
City police officers were called to the parking lot of 392 N. Summit Ave. around 3 p.m. on Wednesday. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle blocking the flow of traffic and a driver who "appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance," police said.
While trying to speak with the driver, police said they were shot at by someone at a higher elevation. As officers sought cover they spotted an individual on an apartment balcony quickly head inside.

Additional officers from both the Gaithersburg and Montgomery County Police Departments were sent to the scene, and a perimeter was set up around the apartment complex.
A shelter-in-place was initiated for area residents, but was later lifted.

No injuries were reported.
