Trojans Secure No. 1 Seed In State Baseball Tournament

Gaithersburg High School is the No. 1 seed in the 4A West region. Quince Orchard, and Watkins Mill (3A) also qualified.

They say to be the best, you have to beat the best, and in the Maryland state baseball tournament, the 4A West region goes through Gaithersburg.

The Trojans earned the No. 1 overall seed in the bracket—released Wednesday by the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association—and nearby Quince Orchard High School is the No. 4 seed.

Watkins Mill High School is the No. 11 seed in the 3A West division bracket.

Gaithersburg secured a first-round bye and will face the winner of No. 8 Walter Johnson and No. 9 Wootton in the regional quarterfinals.

Quince Orchard will face No. 13 Northwest in the 4A West region's first round, with the winner slated to challenge the winner of No. 5 Montgomery Blair and No. 12 Clarksburg.

Watkins Mill must travel north to face No. 6 South Hagerstown. The winner advances to the 3A West regional quarterfinal to challenge No. 3 Damascus, which secured a first-round bye.

The MPSSAA varsity baseball tournament starts Friday, May 10, and the quarterfinal round begins on Monday, May 13.
