White's Ferry Remains Closed Wednesday For Flooding On Potomac

White's Ferry is closed again Wednesday, affecting about 600 commuters in Montgomery and Loudon counties.

POOLESVILLE, MD — White's Ferry is closed again Wednesday due to flooding on the Potomac River.

Water levels are still near Flood Stage, but seem to be receding both upstream at Edward's Ferry and downstream at Little Falls Dam, Montgomery County Police & Fire spokesperson Pete Piringer said Wednesday.

There is lots of debris in the water, as well as dangerous and strong currents, after the days of heavy rain that slammed the area last week, Piringer said.

The store at White's Ferry was submerged under about five feet of water Monday, with water reaching the first floor ceiling, a Flood Warning from The National Weather Service said.

White's Ferry is the last of 100 ferries that used to operate on the Potomac River. About 600 people use the ferry to commute between Loudon and Montgomery counties every day.
