Fare Increases For Maryland Commuter Bus, Rail On June 27

The fare for a one way-trip on Maryland commuter buses will increase by $1 on June 27. Full commuter bus, rail service will resume Aug. 30.

MARYLAND — Fares for commuter bus and commuter rail trips are set to increase by $1 on June 27 and full scheduled service will resume Aug. 30, the Maryland Department of Transportation said.

Service had been limited due to decreased ridership during the coronavirus pandemic, and the fare increase is part of a state mandate under the Transportation Infrastructure Investment Act of 2013.

"Public transit offers a great value for consumers and MDOT MTA monthly fare passes remain a cost-effective option when compared to regular rates," the agency said in a news release. "MDOT MTA continues to make significant investments in state of good repair projects to ensure the transit system remains a reliable transportation option for the region."

The Department of Transportation has proposed changes to the commuter service when it does return to full service and has invited public comment, which will close on June 25. Find the details of the proposal here.
