Heavy Fire At Clarksburg Recycling Plant Causes Road Closures

A large fire at a recycling plant caused surrounding roads closures in Clarksburg Wednesday morning.

(Updated at 12:05 p.m.): CLARKSBURG, MD — All lanes have reopened on Frederick Road (MD 355) between Clarksbug Road (MD 121) and Old Hundred Road (MD 109) as of noon, officials said. Expect residual delays.

Firefighters are battling a large blaze at a recycling plant in Clarksburg Wednesday morning.

The two-alarm fire broke out at the empty warehouse at 24120 Frederick Rd. around 3 a.m., officials said.

Commuters are advised to take Interstate 270, as the fire caused road closures on both ways of Maryland Route 355 between Md. 109/Old Hundred Road and Md. 121/Clarksburg Road.

About 75 firefighters are on the scene, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesperson Daniel Ogren said.

Firefighters are using pools of water to fight the fire because there are no fire hydrants in the area.

The cause of the fire is unknown and an investigation is suspected, Ogren said.

There are no injuries reported.
