Ready, Set, Jumpball

What do LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant have in common? They’re all basketball players. While the players competing at the CCACC basketball tournament are not professional players, the games are still exciting as players fight to get their hands on the ball.

The Chinese Culture and Community Service Center (CCACC) is hosting its annual basketball tournament, starting 9/28 at Richard Montgomery High School. With 12 teams, over 100 players, 8 weeks, and 46 games, we would like to welcome all basketball lovers to come out, enjoy the games, and cheer for the teams. The final game will be on 11/16 where the champion of the 2019 basketball tournament will be determined.

Out of the 12 teams, 9 participated last year and are glad to being a part of it again. Unfortunately, there were a few players who couldn’t participate this year because they are no longer in the area. Luckily, we are also welcoming 3 new teams – Evil Colonials, Brick Squad, and CYC Juniors – and we hope that they can bring new blood and energy into this year’s tournament. We are also happy to announce that Maryland Basketball Officials Association (MBOA) will be providing referees and CCACC will have volunteers help keep track of the scores. Many of these student volunteers are eager to help out and excited to be a part of the tournament.

CCACC’s Annual Basketball Tournament is coordinated by Ned Li, and has been taking place for over 30 years now. What started out as a small event where individuals sign up before being placed onto a team has turned into a much anticipated tournament where teams are keen to register.
