Tax-Free Savings, Events, Activities At Clarksburg Outlets

Maryland's tax-free holiday is coming up, and local retailers are ready for the extra business.

CLARKSBURG, MD — Maryland's tax-free holiday is coming up, and the Clarksburg Premium Outlets is inviting people to come shop and save on back-to-school necessities. The smart shopper can really take advantage of the holiday.

Clothing and shoe purchases under $100 will be tax-free, and the first $40 of backpack purchases is tax-free. For more savings, you can visit the Clarksburg Premium Outlets website for exclusive coupons and other discounts.

This year's Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week runs from Sunday, Aug. 12, through Saturday, Aug. 18, says the Maryland comptroller's office. That means qualifying clothing and footwear sold for $100 or less, per item, is exempt from the 6 percent state sales tax. Accessory items are not included, with the exception of backpacks, a staple of student life; the first $40 toward the cost of a backpack or bookbag is also tax-free.
