Whiskey Rocks Kicks Off Jan. 17 In Montgomery County

GERMANTOWN, MD — Calling all whiskey lovers: Whiskey Rocks, the largest event of its kind in Montgomery County, returns Friday, Jan. 17.

Each year, the day-long event attracts hundreds of residents who want to get their hands on limited release and highly sought-after whiskey products — like Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year and Weller Full Proof.

At last year's celebration, county officials said customers stood in line overnight to ensure they'd get the chance to buy some of these harder-to-find whiskey products. Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) reportedly set a one-day store record with more than $116,000 in sales.

"This event is so much fun and brings the whiskey community together to talk, taste and buy bottles to add to their collections," said ABS Director Bob Dorfman. "It's a great event. There are a lot of people who come back every event, and there are more and more people who are whiskey-curious that join in. It grows every year."

This year's event will take place at Clarksburg Village Liquor and Wine Store (12051 Chestnut Branch Way) from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be tastings, engravings, bottle signings, timed product releases, and a whiskey lunch with Maker's Mark Master Distiller Denny Potter, according to county officials.
