7 Odd Items Included in Maryland Sales Tax-Free Week
Back-to-school shoppers can pick up a number of not-so-school-related items during Maryland's tax-free week that is under way.

Maryland’s Tax Free Week is under way in what retailers say has become the busiest shopping period of the year outside of Black Friday.
Every year, shoppers scramble to purchase tax-free notebooks, protractors, pens and paper – but did you know the exemption applies to far more than just school supplies?
The state has a detailed list of what is taxable and what is exempt from Maryland’s sales tax this week.

The list of tax-exempt items includes such oddities as:
- Adult and baby diapers
- Bowling shirts and shoes
- Religious clothing, choir robes
- Garters, garter belts and lingerie
- Galoshes, rubber shoes and raincoats
- Bridal gowns and tuxedos
- Chef’s uniforms
During the tax-free period, qualifying clothing and footwear that costs $100 or less, per item, is exempt from the state sales tax. Accessories are not included.

For 2015, Tax-Free Week in Maryland ends on Saturday, Aug. 15.
