CHEARS Announces Paid AmeriCorps Job Opening in Greenbelt

The job will entail helping to improve the quality of life in our watershed.

 

The CHesapeake Education, Arts and Research Society is announcing a paid Volunteer Maryland Coordinator (VMC) job opening. The VMC is an AmeriCorps position that will have an office in Greenbelt. The person chosen to fill it will work with CHEARS and the City of Greenbelt Public Works staff to recruit, orient and coordinate volunteers.

The VMC will help volunteers learn permaculture principles, reduce urban and suburban runoff, and instill a sense of stewardship in local students and families. CHEARS says they will also work in educational, outdoor spaces.

It will be an 11-month, full-time paid position that is a partnership between CHEARS and Volunteer Maryland. The VMC will receive a living stipend of $13,000, an education award of $5,550, and health insurance if they are not already covered, according to CHEARS.

The VMC will gain training in volunteer management, ecological concepts and more, CHEARS says.

Friday, Aug. 17, is the application deadline and the service year begins Sept. 26.
