Coach Arrested On Child Porn Charges In Charles County

CHARLES COUNTY, MD — A former middle school teacher and high school track coach was arrested Friday on child pornography and assault charges, according to the Charles County Sheriff's Office. Carlos Deangelo Bell, 30, is being held without bond for three counts of second degree assault and may face additional charges because he revealed to police he is HIV positive.

Bell previously was an instructional assistant at Stoddert Middle School and track coach at La Plata High School. Police began investigating him In December after receiving a tip that he may have been doing inappropriate things to a student while he was track coach. He immediately was canned, and police searched his work computer.

Nothing suspicious was found but then police — armed with a warrant — searched his home computer. Bingo. Evidence was found linking him to production of child pornography. An investigation also found he allegedly sexually abused several boys on school property, at his home and possibly at other locations. He told police he's HIV positive, and tests confirmed as much.
