Community Sing-A-Long at the New Deal Café

Back by popular request, sing folk revival favorites, Broadway show tunes and more among friends and neighbors.

Greenbelters and patrons of all ages are invited to the café tonight for a community sing-a-long from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

It's back by popular request, according to café General Manager Terri Rutledge.  They held the first sing-a-long a couple of months back, and people liked it so much—they asked for more.

You don't have to be a diva or singing sensation to join in, no singing experience is needed, according to the café. Songs will come from "Rise Up Singing" songbook which includes:

  • Folk revival favorites
  • Broadway show tunes
  • Beatles' songs
  • hymns, spirituals, and gospel standards
  • songs about peace, freedom, labor, and the environment

Participants will also be sharing and teaching each other new songs.

The café will be serving up Chef Karim and Maria's Lebanese favorites and other specialties, so while singing, you can have a meal while you're at it. Well, er, perhaps in between songs…
