GAIL Sponsors Free Derma Scan

Greenbelters can see if excessive sun exposure and dehydration have had an effect on their skin.

The Greenbelt Assistance in Living program (GAIL) is sponsoring a free derma scan screening at the Greenbelt Community Center on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Derma scan uses ultraviolet (UV) light to show skin damage that is invisible to the naked eye. It shows damage that is caused by excessive sun exposure and dehydration.

Photos of the ABCD's of Melanoma are posted on The American Melanoma Foundation's website, which it describes as:

  • A for Asymmetry: One half is different than the other half.
  • B for Border Irregularity: The edges are notched, uneven, or blurred.
  • C for Color: The color is uneven. Shades of brown, tan and black are present.
  • D for Diameter: Diameter is greater than 6 millimeters.
