Greenbelt Community Foundation Awards Latest Grants
Four winners have received grants for projects the foundation believes strengthen the qualities of Greenbelt.

The latest grantees of Greenbelt Community Foundation are the CHesapeake Education, Arts and Research Society (CHEARS), Friends of the Greenbelt Museum, the Greenbelt Cultural Arts Center, and the Greenbelt Farmers Market, as reported by the Greenbelt News Review.
The foundation has awarded some $90,000 in grants since it "went live" in 2006 and has invested an equal amount to build its fund for the future, according to the report.
The foundation’s mission is to maintain, improve, and enrich the quality life in Greenbelt, according to the foundation's website, which adds that it supports projects that strengthen the unique qualities of the city.

The grantees for these spring-round awards were announced at a July 22 ceremony in the Greenbelt Community Center. Grantees received the following awards, according to the News Review, (page 1):
CHEARS - $2,000: The award honors its "TapRoots" program that has provided training for Greenbelt Middle School students on food safety, nutrition, environmental, sustainablilty and agroecology.

Friends of the Greenbelt Museum - $1,600. The group will be developing a new exhibition celebrating Greenbelt's 75th Anniversary. It aims to open in August.
- $5,000. The arts center has installed new doors and automatic door openers in its restrooms in keeping with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Greenbelt Farmers Market - $5,000. The grant will make possible new signage to replace the temporary signs the farmers market has been using on market days.
