Greenbelt Set For Fourth Fanfare at the Lake

Drummers, hot dogs, a band, and fireworks over the lake, is there any greater place to be on the Fourth than Greenbelt?

Enjoy the Fourth of July among friends and neighbors at in Greenbelt, MD. And let your pets enjoy it too, leave them at home away from the lights and kabooms.

On top of the scheduled festivities, Fourth-goers can bring a picnic, walk the trail around the lake, let the kids have fun on the playground, and stop by the Greenbelt Babe Ruth fundraiser if they want hotdogs, snowcones, BBQ, and more.

  • 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.: Greenbelt Concert Band: 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the bandstand.
  • 7:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Drum Circle at the bandstand, facilitated by Katy Gaughan. Participants of all ages can listen or take part. Drum Circle invites Fourth-goers to bring their own percussion instruments or use the ones provided by Gaughan. No experience is necessary
  • Around 9 p.m.: Fireworks will start as soon as it is dark enough. In case of inclement weather, call the Recreation Department's hotline for an update: (301) 474-0646

The city of Greenbelt urges paticipants to leave pets at home. It cautions that fireworks are damaging to pets ears and can make them very nervous.

If you don't want to picnic or cook out yourself, Greenbelt Babe Ruth will be on hand serving food at the lake starting at noon in the area closest to the parking lot. It's an annual fundraiser for the local baseball and softball league.

Babe Ruth will be selling some staple Independence Day fare like hot dogs, nachos, snow cones, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, BBQ chicken tacos, BBQ chicken on stick, grilled corn on the cob, watermelon slices, waters, sodas and ice cream.
