Man Dies After Standoff With Police in Greenbelt

The man reportedly fired upon officers and was subsequently shot by a Greenbelt police officer.

GREENBELT, MD - A man was killed after a shooting in Greenbelt Monday night involving police, authorities said in a press release.

According to Greenbelt police, officers responded to the report of a person shooting a gun in the area of the 6200 block of Springhill Court around 10:34 p.m.. Officers located the man firing from the third floor balcony of an apartment, police said.

The man reportedly fired upon officers and was subsequently shot by a Greenbelt police officer, police said. The scene was secured and the 28-year-old Greenbelt man was taken into custody and transported to Prince George's General Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

No other injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
