Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service

Volunteer opportunity! Help protect trees from beavers and invasive species in Buddy Attick Park!

Volunteers are needed for a service-learning event on Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service to protect trees from beavers and invasive species in Buddy Attick Park from 10:30 AM - 1 PM.
Be a part of the community effort to protect trees from beaver herbivory and invasive species at Buddy Attick Park. Volunteers will work with Public Works staff to learn how to identify slow-growth native and nonnative trees, as well as the invasive species, English ivy. Wire caging will be placed around the trunks of native trees to protect them from beaver herbivory, and hand shears will be used to remove English ivy from taking over the forest.
Reminders:
Wear weather appropriate clothes and closed-toed shoes
Bring your reusable water bottle
High school students: remember your service-learning forms!

Date: 01/16/2017 (Mon.)
Time: 10:30am - 1:00pm

Location: Buddy Attick Park, 555 Crescent Road, Greenbelt, MD 20770
