Maryland Weather Forecast: Much Colder Temps Later This Week

We'll begin 2017 with temperatures staying far above freezing, but only for a few days. Here's the latest forecast.

The new year begins with temperatures staying in the 40s and low 50s for several days, before a sharp drop enters the forecast, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures cool to the low 40s by Monday, with showers likely in the morning and early afternoon. Showers will be back in the forecast Tuesday, with temperatures climbing back to the low 50s.

We'll start seeing colder temperatures Wednesday night, as we drop below freezing for the first time this week. Thursday's high will only reach 34 degrees.

Friday and Saturday will offer even colder temperatures, as daytime highs only hit 32 degrees and overnight lows fall to the teens.

Tonight: A chance of showers, mainly after 1am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 36. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Monday: Showers likely, mainly before 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 43. East wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tuesday: Showers. High near 51. East wind around 5 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 46.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 34.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 32.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 32.
