Prince George’s Master Gardeners hold spring gardening progams

Learn about gardening – for food, for fun and for pollinators – this spring.

The Master Gardeners of Prince George’s County, part of the University of Maryland Extension, will hold free programs for adults and workshops for children on Saturdays at five library branches in the county this spring. Programs generally last about an hour. They are:

Life Cycle of a Butterfly and Butterfly Pasta Workshop, March 10, 2 p.m. Children ages 8 and up learn about butterflies and make a butterfly project with pasta. Children should be accompanied by an adult. No preregistration required. Free.

Starting a Spring Vegetable Garden, March 17, 2 p.m. The how-tos of growing your own veggies.

Parts of a Flower, April 14, 2 p.m. An interactive program for children ages 8 and up. Children should be accompanied by an adult. No preregistration required. Free.

Plants that Work Well in Shade, April 21, 2 p.m. Learn how to cultivate a beautiful shade garden.

Vertical Gardening, May 12, 2 p.m. Short on space? Want to plant a tall screen or grow vining veggies? This is for you.

Life Cycle of a Butterfly and Butterfly Pasta Workshop, May 5, noon. Children ages 8 and older learn about butterflies and make a butterfly project with pasta. Children should be accompanied by an adult. No preregistration required. Free.
