Reel and Meal Presents 'DIRT! The Movie'

Reel and Meal at the New Deal will present "DIRT! The Movie" on Monday at 7 p.m. at the .
Narrated by Jamie Lee Curtis, "DIRT! The Movie" shows the environmental, economic, social and political impact soil has. Experts from around the world share stories.
The film opens by diving into the wonderment of soil, according to DIRT! The Movie's website. It states the film tells "the story of Earth's most valuable and under-appreciated source of fertility—from its miraculous beginning to its crippling degradation."
Describing dirt as made from the same elements as stars, plants and animals and us, DIRT!The Movie's site states "dirt is very much alive." But in industrial pursuits and the drive for profit, our human connection to and respect for soil has been disrupted.
"Drought, climate change, even war are all directly related to the way we are treating dirt," states DIRT! The Movie's site.
The film series' featured speaker will be Michel Cavigelli, U.S. Department of Agriculture soil scientist and researcher.
An optional vegan buffet meal is available for $13 beforehand at 6:30 p.m., cooked by the New Deal Café's Karim and Maria. Admission to the film is free.
