Zoo Animals Visit Greenbelt Library Tuesday

The Maryland Zoo is bringing animals to the Greenbelt Library—and will allow library-goers to touch some of them.

It's a first, the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is bringing animals to the Greenbelt Library, says Branch Manager Ellen Utley.

"It should be fascinating for anyone who's interested in zoology," Utley said.

The special program is geared toward kids from ages 5-12, and a treat for those interested in science and animals.

Utley said she does not know which animals zoo officials are bringing, but she was informed that they will be native species.

The adventure starts at 2 p.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Kids will learn about the animals' habitats and get a chance to touch some of them, but they will have to wash their hands before and afterward, Utley said. She explained that the zoo provided some guidelines.

"They [the zoo] said absolutely no animals can be permitted for that performance," Utley said. This means no service animals either, she elaborated.
