"My parents own a shop downtown," said Klisavage, whose family owns Washington Street Books.
While has become acquainted with Havre de Grace through the business, Klisavage said he wanted to let people know "I'm here to help" as he gets to know the citizens and community better.
Officer Matos was a correctional officer in New Jersey.
"We're not going to hold that against you," Chief Walter said, "but trust me, you will not want to go back to New Jersey."
Matos said after he got his "toes wet" in law enforcement in New Jersey, he realized he wanted to do "something more," so he took a chance upon seeing the Havre de Grace Police Department was hiring.
"I think you both are going to do a great job," Chief Walter said.
The two new officers began their training July 6 at the Baltimore County Police Academy, she said, and they just recently graduated.
"Because of COVID, they did not have a formal graduation, but they are hoping to have that in March in a much bigger facility in Baltimore County," Walter said, adding: "So far according to their field training officers, they're doing very well."
