Havre de Grace High School Hall Of Fame: 4 New Inductees Named
The Havre de Grace High School's 2018 Hall of Fame class has been announced. All embody the motto: 'Enter to Learn; Leave to Serve.'

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — Four people will be inducted into the Havre de Grace High School Hall of Fame on Oct. 12. The ceremony will be part of the homecoming festivities.
The newest members of the hall of fame are the late Cheryl Eberhardt, David Glenn, Dr. Jacqueline Holland and Mitchell “Mitch" Shank. They will join the 38 members of the hall of fame who have been selected for the honor in the program's eight years.
A Hall of Fame Review Committee made up of community members, alumni, staff and school administrators helped select the nominees. Inductees are recognized for their extraordinary accomplishments and for being positive role models.

The Havre de Grace Hall of Fame Review Committee provided the following information about each of the new inductees:
Cheryl Eberhardt (class of 1962)
Before passing away in 2004, Cheryl Eberhardt spent 59 years in service to Havre de Grace children and community members, from teacher to team mom. She was a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church and troop leader of the Havre de Grace Girl Scouts, receiving commendations from the organization, and also stepping in to lead the Boy Scout troop as needed. She helped organize activities related to the Havre de Grace youth football program, even housing players in her home during the state tournament, and became the president of the Havre de Grace High School Boosters Club. For 16 years, Eberhardt was an instructional assistant at Havre de Grace Elementary School, where she had been a mentor.

"Cheryl truly served all, whether volunteering for local political campaigns and working with S.M.I.L.E.S., to her long-time service as a member of the Havre de Grace Fourth of July Committee. She was never one to say 'no' when anyone needed help. Her home was always open to anyone who needed a meal, a place to stay, a friend or just someone to listen," the Havre de Grace High School Hall of Fame Committee said. "As Cheryl left Havre de Grace High School, she fully embraced the 'Leave to Serve' creed, living in service to the community. Her efforts and giving made the City of Havre de Grace a better place and its citizens better people. Cheryl passed away from breast cancer in 2004, but her legacy of service lives on within her family."
David Glenn (class of 1975)
David Glenn received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award for his contributions at Aberdeen Proving Ground, where he worked for more than 37 years. He handled the manpower program, helping to determine what resources were needed for various missions, information used by the Pentagon. He has a master's in administration. He and his family were selected as Harford County’s Volunteer Family of the Year in 2000. He's an Eagle Scout, has been the Havre de Grace Little League coach for more than 30 years and was inducted into the Havre de Grace Little League Hall of Fame in 2004. As PTA President at Meadowvale Elementary, he helped bring renovations to fruition; was a member of the James Harris Field Committee; volunteered with S.M.I.L.E.S. as well as the Children’s Miracle Network; and founded the Ben Keyes Scholarship. In 2012, he was elected to the Havre de Grace City Council and is in his second term.
"For the past six years, David has been a tireless advocate in the Warrior Pride Movement by constantly speaking out, writing letters, attending meetings and telling everyone who will listen the story of Havre de Grace and its need for a replacement school, a dream that has become a reality in Havre de Grace," the Havre de Grace Hall of Fame Committee said in a statement. "David has clearly served the Havre de Grace Community in a dedicated and selfless manner. He is a role model for youth as evidenced by his continued education, his successful career and his service to our community. His impact on our community is far reaching from the Little League fields, to our schools and to our city government. He exemplifies that people who care, can and do, make a difference."
Dr. Jacqueline M. Holland (class of 1971)
Dr. Holland has a career that includes being an educator, professor, supervisor, administrator, spiritual leader, co-author and writer. She started as a classroom teacher in Prince George’s County Public Schools in 1976 and worked there for more than 20 years. In 1998, she became a mentor teacher, coaching new teachers through long-range planning, demonstrating instructional best practices, professional development, data collection and assessment. She was appointed the supervisor of Family and Consumer Sciences for Prince George’s County Public Schools in 2004 and was an assistant principal during the 2012- 2013 school year. She has a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Since 2013, Dr. Holland has been an assistant professor at Morgan State University in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. She has received awards such as the National Coalition for Black Development in Family and Consumer Sciences Outstanding Family and Consumer Sciences Service Award, CHEF Nutrition Grant, Maryland Association of Family and the Consumer Sciences Visionary Leadership Award, Ellen H. Richards Graduate Fellowship, Mary Faulkner Scholarship and National Graduate Scholarship. As a member of the Morgan State University Memorial Chapel staff, she mentors students in their spiritual development. She has participated in mission trips with The Navigators to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Niger, Uganda, Ghana, Morocco, Bermuda, Russia and Japan. She is president of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, president of the National Coalition for Black Development in Family and Consumer Sciences, and board member for the Maryland Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and International Home Economics Services.
Mitchell “Mitch” Shank (class of 1973)
Mitch Shank has carved his mark into the community, shaping the special events and museums in Havre de Grace, leading businesses and serving as an elected official. The former director of the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum, he was its first paid employee and helped establish the Decoy Show and Duck Fair. Working with the Havre de Grace Bicentennial Committee in 1985, he promoted the Winter Carnival, Black History Program, Beauty Pageant, Town Birthday Party, Pet Costume Contest and Parade and was part of the Seafood Festival, Corn Festival, Harford County Fair and Septemberfest. He was on the board of the Lock House Museum and helped organize the Candlelight Tour. He has been president, board member and vice president of the Havre de Grace Chamber of Commerce; helped run Bible school at Havre de Grace United Methodist Church; and recently has been working to promote the Arts and Entertainment District in Havre de Grace. At Havre de Grace Elementary School, he was PTA president, helped design the Patriot Program and began a chess club.
In addition to his work as a volunteer, he has been a civil servant. He has served on the Republican National Committee, Harford County Council and Havre de Grace City Council. On top of that, he has volunteered for committees including the Park Study Commission, Public Safety Committee, Tourism Commission and the Havre de Grace Economic Development Commission.
Induction Ceremony Set For Oct. 12
The Havre de Grace Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be at 9 a.m. on Oct. 12 in the auditorium at Havre de Grace High School.
Their portraits will be added to the hallway display of hall of fame inductees in Havre de Grace High School.
