David F. Warren, 79, Of Havre de Grace

David F. Warren of Havre de Grace, passed away on Aug. 25, 2018. He was an active member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Fallston and several non-profit self-help organizations in Harford County.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jan; two children, Rex Everett (Rett) Warren and Kimball Leigh (Kim) Shedleski, and two grandchildren, Frank and Joseph Shedleski.

After growing up on a farm in Blytheville, Arkansas, he graduated from the University of Missouri in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in journalism, then was a staff photographer for the Topeka Capital-Journal in Kansas before working as a public information specialist for the USDA in Washington, D.C.

By the time he retired from the federal government in 1997, he had a 36-year career that included speechwriting for two secretaries of agriculture and photographing agricultural operations around the country for the USDA's bicentennial tabletop book "The Face of Rural America."

He married Jan Kimball of Stanberry, Missouri, in 1963. They traveled extensively and were movie extras in various films through the Baltimore-Washington region, including Syriana, Head of State, A Dirty Shame and a couple of episodes of West Wing. In 2006 they moved into a condo in Havre de Grace where through the trees you can see the Chesapeake Bay.

Their son Rett, who lives near Baltimore, is a strength and conditioning coach at the U.S. Naval Academy, and their daughter Kim, who lives in Joppa with her husband and their two sons, is an adjunct math instructor at Harford Community College.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2, at McComas Funeral Home, 1317 Cokesbury Road, Abingdon.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 3, at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 621 Old Fallston Road, Fallston, MD 21047.
