Havre de Grace HS Teacher Is 2019 Harford County Teacher Of Year

Meet the Harford County Public Schools Teacher of the Year for 2019, an educator from Havre de Grace High School.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — An English teacher at Havre de Grace High School has been named the 2019 Harford County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. She is known for creating an academic environment that helps her students thrive.

Paige Milanoski, who won the honor, has been a teacher with Harford County Public Schools since 1999 and taken one year away. Since starting at Harford Technical High School, her roles have included English instructor, curriculum writer, English department chair, summer school instructor and strategic reading instructor. At Harford Technical High School, she also coached the JV and varsity cheer teams.

In 2014, she taught for Cecil County Public Schools for one school year before returning to Harford
County to her current position as English and strategic reading instructor at Havre de Grace
High School, according to Harford County Public Schools.

“Mrs. Milanoski is a champion educator who has successfully created a classroom
environment that is both instructionally sound and nurturing," Superintendent Dr. Sean Bulson said at the award banquet on Wednesday, April 3.

Harford County Executive Barry Glassman and other elected officials, Harford County Board of Education President Joseph Voskuhl,school administrators, educators, students, family, friends and community members were among those in attendance at the event.

"I want to share the joy and commendation of this important endeavor with the teachers who are in the trenches with me, the students who make this privilege possible, and the community who is always unfailing in the support of me and of my students," Milanoski said upon receiving her award at the Harford County Public Schools' Teacher of the Year Banquet Wednesday night at The Bayou Restaurant.

“I do not take for granted on any day the power of the responsibility that I have as a teacher,” Milanoski said. “It is my life, my heart, and my purpose."

For being Teacher of the Year, Milanoski will compete against others from across the state to see who will become Maryland Teacher of the Year; that person, announced in October, will become a spokesperson for education in Maryland.

As part of her award in Harford County, Milanoski won a free one-year lease of a brand-new 2019 Nissan Rogue courtesy of Jones Junction, a Dell laptop, a watch from Saxon’s Diamond Centers, a big-screen TV from NTA Life, custom ring from Josten as well as gift certificates, local merchant gift card and $1,200 from HAR-CO Credit Union, an award provided to all five Teacher of the Year finalists.
