Havre de Grace Mayor Tests Positive For Coronavirus

After the mayor of Havre de Grace contracts coronavirus, he has a message for the public.

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — One of the latest citizens of Havre de Grace to test positive for the coronavirus is Mayor William T. Martin. There are 111 confirmed cases of the virus in the 21078 ZIP code, the Harford County Health Department reported Friday, Aug. 14.

"My own diagnosis reinforces the fact that COVID-19 is here in Havre de Grace," Martin said. "Even with the best precautions, we are all vulnerable to it."

Martin and another individual who works at City Hall tested positive for the virus this week.

The mayor said he got his results Wednesday, the day after visiting the Ripken Stadium testing site.

City officials notified staff and the Harford County Health Department Thursday and participated in contact tracing.

People who met definitions of "contact" outlined by the Harford County Health Department and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be teleworking until Aug. 25, officials determined.

Said Martin to the general public: "Please continue to be safe by wearing your masks, keeping social distance, washing your hands, and taking care of yourselves and the people around you."
