HdG Man Who Drove Into Station Wanted To Kill Police: Officials

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — A Havre de Grace man has been charged with attempted murder and other offenses after authorities said he tried to run over officers in front of his home then drove to the station, where he crashed into the lobby, got out of his vehicle and tried to attack police.

Timothy Joel Jackson Kahl, 24, of the 400 block of Village Drive, was stunned with a Taser and subsequently arrested Sunday night following the incident in Havre de Grace, police reported.

No officers were injured, but authorities reported Monday that the police station on Pennington Avenue sustained “severe damage.”

Kahl has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and three counts of malicious destruction of property valued over $1,000, according to officials.

Police said Kahl called the Havre de Grace Police Department at 9:34 p.m. Sunday and said he was going to come to the police station and kill a police officer. Officials said they believed he was at his home on Village Drive, so officers went to his residence, where they saw him driving erratically.

“He struck several parked vehicles and tried to run over the officers before fleeing the area,” police said in a statement.

Afterward, Kahl drove the mile from his home to the station on Pennington Avenue, where officials reported he hit another parked car, then drove into the lobby of the station.

“He exited his vehicle and as he came back out of the front doors, he tried to attack officers and was tased and then arrested and taken to Harford Memorial Hospital,” police said. “No police officers or staff were injured during the incident. The police department’s building sustained severe damage.”

The mayor of Havre de Grace issued a statement Monday thanking police for their work.

"The events that unfolded late last evening are a testament to the true dedication and professionalism of the men and women who make up the Havre de Grace Police Department and shed light on the constant danger and threats they face every day," Mayor William T. Martin wrote in a statement. "We are all very grateful that the subject was apprehended professionally and without any injury to our officers or the public. We must always be cognizant that no community, no matter how great, is immune to such random acts of violence. Thank you, Havre de Grace police!"
