Horizon Cinemas Offers Guests A Five-Star Experience

Patch had the chance to chat with Thomas Wienholt, VP at Horizon Cinemas, about his role in the community.

Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?

Wienholt: High Quality, Affordable, Family Entertainment

Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?

Wienholt: Our biggest challenge has been the current COVID-19 pandemic, and the resulting shutdowns, which required us to close for most of 2020. After a difficult six months, we were finally able to re-open in September 2020 with many restrictions. Thankfully, all restrictions have finally been lifted and we are hopeful that things will get back to normal.

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?

Wienholt: Being able to give back to the community is the most satisfying part of being a local movie theatre owner. We love hosting fundraisers and special events, as well as donating movie tickets and popcorn to various organizations.

Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?

Wienholt: We are different from other movie theatres in that we try to provide a family friendly, small town feel at our theatres. Our locations are smaller (only six to eight screens) than the big national chain complexes. This gives our theatres a more relaxing, cozy feel. Also, I feel that it is important for customers to be able to easily contact the owners with questions/comments. I take care of all event planning and customer inquiries that are submitted through our website. So, if someone has a special request, it comes straight to me.

Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?

Wienholt: The best advice when it comes to success is the old saying, “the customer is always right.” We want to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all of our guests. However, we realize that sometimes we fall short. But, we are willing to do whatever it takes to “make it right” and make sure that our customers are happy.

Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavours you’re working on that you’re extra excited about?

Wienholt: Our newest location in Aberdeen is very exciting. We initially opened in March 2020, but were forced to shut down 10 days later due to Covid. We are excited to be back open and our customers love the new location. It features stadium seating, leather recliners. State of the art digital projection and sound, food menu, and a bar. We worked very hard on the new location and are happy to share it with the community.
