Santa Land, Decorating Contest, Polar Express: HdG Events

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — There are several seasonal events this weekend in Havre de Grace. From shopping to Santa Land, here are some of the holiday happenings.

Merchants in downtown Havre de Grace are extending their hours for the weekend. From Dec. 15 to Dec. 17, some business owners will have refreshments and giveaways to celebrate the season, according to the city.

Judging is underway for a citywide home decorating contest. Judging is Dec. 14 and Dec. 15, and the winners will be revealed at the Havre de Grace City Council meeting on Dec. 18. Want to register for the contest? Call 410-939-2100.

Santa Land will be open from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16. Santa will be in his house in the 200 block of Washington Street.

The Cultural Center at the Opera House will host a screening of “Polar Express,” at 11 a.m. on Dec. 16. There will be free cocoa and muffins at 10 a.m. courtesy of the PTA. Children under 13 years old will get in free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets for adults are $5.

The Havre de Grace Library will welcome people afterward for crafts, sweets, music and pictures with Santa. That will go on until 1 p.m. on Dec. 16.

The Cultural Center at the Opera House will host an "Old Fashioned Holiday on Union Avenue" with a a screening of "White Christmas" at 7 p.m. on Dec. 16.

The Deer Creek Trio will put on a show at the Havre de Grace Library, which will be transformed into the "Union Avenue Inn" at 9 p.m. on Dec. 16. The event is for those 21 and up.

The Melting Pot Big Band will play at the Cultural Center at the Opera House at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17. The big band will play two hours of holiday favorites.
