60 MPH Winds Possible In Harford, Cecil Counties

A tornado watch and severe thunderstorm warning remain in effect after a tornado warning expired in northeastern Maryland.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A flood warning is in effect for Harford County until 7:45 p.m. Monday.

The National Weather Service issued the warning after multiple roads were closed in the area due to high water.

Approximately 2 to 3 inches of rain fell Monday in Harford County, the National Weather Service reported before 3 p.m.

The Otter Point Creek stream gauge in Edgewood indicated minor flooding.

"While the heavier rain has moved out of the warned area, stream levels will continue to slowly rise due to excess runoff," according to the flood warning, which states these areas may be impacted: Bel Air South, Riverside, Kingsville, Pleasant Hills, Edgewood, Joppatowne, Joppa, Bradshaw, Benson, Abingdon, Upper Falls, Gunpowder and Harford Furnace.

A tornado watch remains in effect until 7 p.m.


HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A tornado warning is in effect for part of Cecil County until 3:15 p.m. Monday, while a severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Harford County until 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

"For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building," the National Weather Service said in a statement. "This storm may cause serious injury and significant property damage."

Radar detected a severe thunderstorm 7 miles northeast of Havre de Grace before 2:40 p.m. that was moving northeast at 45 mph. Earlier, radar detected a severe thunderstorm over Riverside near Aberdeen that was moving northeast at 45 mph.

The radar shows 60 mph wind gusts with the storms, which officials warned may bring down branches and trees, injuring those outside as well as damaging homes and vehicles.

Power outages are possible, and roads may become blocked by downed trees, the warning says.
These areas may be affected, according to the warning: Aberdeen, Havre de Grace, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Calvert, Bel Air South, Riverside, North East, Rising Sun, Perryman and Charlestown.

"Intense thunderstorm lines can produce brief tornadoes and widespread significant wind damage," officials warned.

An earlier tornado warning expired at 2:45 p.m.
