Mercy High School Announces Partnership with Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra

Mercy High School announced that it will be the new home of the Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra.

Mercy High School announced today that it will be the new home of the Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra will be in residence at Mercy High School, performing several concerts a year in addition to holding weekly rehearsals and offering performance opportunities for Mercy students.

The Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra, founded in 2013, encompasses 65 musicians and a chorale. They perform 10 concerts a year, a combination of symphony, chorale and chamber music.

The first concert at Mercy High School will take place in The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Auditorium on Sunday, May 17, and feature Dvorak’s “From the New World,” Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” and Bernstein’s “Overture to Candide.”

Mercy High School is an independent Catholic college preparatory school for girls in grades 9-12. Located in Baltimore, Mercy offers its students several performing arts opportunities including Dance Troupe, Ensemble Players, an instrumental group, and the Madrigals, a chorale.

As a result of this new partnership, Mercy’s music students will be able to interact regularly with Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra musicians and take advantage of the expertise they offer. Mercy’s dance students will also have opportunities to perform with the orchestra.

“The arts are an integral part of life at Mercy High School,” said Mary Beth Lennon, president. “Our partnership with the Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra will give Mercy students and faculty unique opportunities to perform with professional musicians right here on our campus. We are also pleased to help make a first-class symphony experience available to our neighbors and friends in North Baltimore.”

The Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra was organized two years ago to create a professional-level, nonprofit community orchestra and chorale. The symphony’s mission is to promote music education to children and youth, to provide a musical outlet for members of the community and to perform the finest available orchestral and choral works.

“My fellow musicians and I are delighted that the Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra has a permanent home at Mercy High School,” said Greg Lauer, founder and executive director of the orchestra. “The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Auditorium at Mercy provides a concert hall setting, complete with excellent acoustics. The 660-seat auditorium and ample parking will accommodate our growing audiences. Being based at a school helps us further our mission to promote music education to young people and to enrich the culture of our community.”
