Warren Elementary School Named 2017 School Of Character
The school in Cockeysville is one of five statewide to receive the recognition.

From Baltimore County Public Schools: Warren Elementary School has been named a 2017 State School of Character by the Maryland Center for Character Education at Stevenson University.
The Cockeysville school is one of just 80 schools nationwide to receive this honor. Warren Elementary staff were recognized during the Maryland Center for Character Education’s annual reception at Stevenson University on Oct. 5.
“This is a significant honor that recognizes the great work Warren Elementary staff put forth to create a positive school climate,” BCPS Interim Superintendent Verletta White said. “I am proud of students and staff for their hard work.”

Each year, Character.org and its state affiliates, including the Maryland Center for Character Education, select schools and districts that demonstrate a dedicated focus on character development that has a positive effect on academic achievement, student behavior, and school climate.
Warren Elementary was one of five schools in Maryland to be named a 2017 State School of Character.

“I am so proud that Warren Elementary received this recognition,” Warren Elementary Principal Lisa Dingle said. “Our school counselor, staff, and students have put forth great efforts to enhancing Warren Elementary’s character education program.”
At Warren, students serve as peer mediators, helping to work out potential conflicts. Dingle credited Warren’s student leaders for helping to foster a welcoming environment.
Eight additional BCPS schools and programs were recognized for their character education programs at the Maryland Center for Character Education’s annual reception:
- Chesapeake Terrace Elementary
- Glyndon Elementary
- Meadowood Education Center
- Middle River Middle
- Norwood Elementary’s STEM program
- Owings Mills Elementary
- Pine Grove Middle
- Wellwood International Elementary
At the Maryland Center for Character Education’s reception, recipients from the honored schools were able to share more details about character education efforts.
