Hair Cuttery Opens in Hyattsville Arts District

Hairstyling chain becomes latest tenant at Arts District commercial area to open for business.

After more than six months of planning and interior decorating, the Hair Cuttery has opened in the EYA Shoppes at Arts District on Baltimore Avenue in downtown Hyattsville.

Managed by Washington, D.C. resident Tyree Williams and Hyattsville resident Lorena Navarrete, the new salon opened for business on Thursday, March 15. Williams said their first customer was a professor at the University of Maryland.

The salon employs 10 people, said Navarrete. All positions are filled at the moment.

"We can do everything, too," said Williams. "Hair cuts, color, everything."

"As long as it doesn't involve nails," joked Navarrete.

Williams said she looks forward to getting to know customers at the new location along an up-and-coming Route 1 corridor.

"There's a fresh start," said Williams. "They are building out everything, and it gives us a good start because more and more people are going to come to this area."

This franchise location is owned by the Hair Cuttery corporation, said Williams.
