County Ambulance Involved in Fender Bender

Car backs into ambulance at low speed.

A Prince George's County ambulance was involved in a minor fender bender earlier today when a motorist accidentally backed his sedan into the emergency vehicle, according to a police investigator on the scene.

The incident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of East-West Highway, just outside of Hyattsville. Damage to both vehicles was minor, with a small hole punched in the rear bumper of the silver mid-sized sedan which impacted the abulance. Traffic delays were minimal, as all involved were able to pull over to the shoulder to inspect the damage. By 4 p.m., the scene was clearing.

Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified the station in which the ambulance was based. According to Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department president Dave Iannone, the ambulance involved in this incident is staffed and operated by county EMS crews and is based out of the Chillum fire station. This journalist regrets his boneheaded error.
