Hyattsville Art From the Inside Out
Design Studio Art Gallery is now going by the name Riggio Design: Interiors/ Gallery/Showroom.
Some things are evolutions.
Erica Riggio and her interior design business—ahem, studio/gallery/showroom—is a re-evolution of sorts.
Riggio moved her workspace from a storefront at on Baltimore Avenue, down a couple doors, and into the at The Lustine Center.

, formerly the harvest of Riggio’s and her business partner’s work, is now going by the name Riggio Design: Interiors/ Gallery/Showroom.
“Now, we are under the umbrella space, artdc @ Lustine and work out of and help curate, at times, exhibits alongside of artdc,” Riggio said. “We actually have a few other arts-related businesses—VM Photography and Makeup and Space 26 Designs—working out of the same space. It really helps with creative energy.”

Riggio made the move when the building she was in was sold and her lease expired. Her business partner went into education and Riggio went out on her own. And it seems to be going very well.
“We have completed some great communal spaces lately and just finished a new Micro Design,” she said. “This is a concept we are introducing at [an upcoming] opening.”
Her company also just designed Bishop Boutique, a new boutique in Old Town Alexandria. The design work was inspired by Alexander McQueen’s Widows of Culloden’s Antler Dress and includes antlers, custom millwork, a chrome and glass chandelier and a 52-inch round ottoman to give the look of a sophisticated dressing room.
The design will be on display at an upcoming exhibit, Interior Design is Art, which runs from Nov. 9 to Dec. 4. Riggio is partnering with Space 26 Designs on the exhibit, which illustrates the design process through “conceptual development, schematic and process sketches, and finished and under construction projects,” a press release states.
The event also will boast a marketplace of refinished and vintage furniture and will introduce Micro Design.
An opening reception is planned from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 16.
“One of our goals is to bring ‘the art world’ in direct contact with other business entities in the hope that we can strengthen the relationship and commitment between local artists and local businesses,” Riggio said in a statement about the project.
