Hyattsville Derecho Damage Will Take Time To Clean Up
City officials ask for patience from residence as clean up effort begins. Power outages remain an issue.

Though power returned for many, thousands of residents in the Hyattsville area remained without power last night and into this morning following a
Hyattsville communications director Abby Sandel asked city residents to be patient as crews from a variety of agencies deal with the aftereffects of the storm.Â
"Storm cleanup is going to take some time," said Sandel in an interview.

According to a message posted on the Hyattsville city website, Pepco has restored power to all of its substations and high voltage transmission lines.Â
The power outages are not without their own set of risks. Overnight, one Langley Park family was displaced when a lamp fell onto a pile of clothing and started a fire.

Power outages remained an issue for residents of Hyattsville's southern neighborhoods in the vicinity of Magruder Park. The outages have forced the city's summer camp program to relocate to the Hyattsville Municipal Building until power is restored. To make it easier on parents, campers are still being picked up and dropped off at Magruder Park, with the city providing transporation for the campers between Magruder Park and the municipal building.Â
