Hyattsville Mayor Leaving Post in May

After two terms as mayor, Gardiner is not seeking another term.



Hyattsville Mayor William Gardiner is calling it quits as the city's head honcho after eight years of service in his current role, and two years before that as a City Councilman for Ward 4.

Gardiner read a statement at last night's council meeting, indicating that he would not seek re-election in this May's municipal elections.

His terms have been marked by a substantial increase in mixed-use development and the annexation of new areas into the city.

No one has officially thrown their hat in the ring for this race, but announcements of intention are expected soon.

Candidate registration begins on Feb. 28, when campaign signs may first be set out. Applications for absentee ballots will be available 8:30 a.m. from this date at the office of the City Clerk or oline at www.hyattsville.org.
