Hyattsville Mechanic Scores Big In Maryland Lottery

HYATTSVILLE, MD — A coffee break for a Hyattsville mechanic led to a lucky $50,000 scratch-off win, the Maryland Lottery announced.

“The first thing I saw looked like a $5,000 win,” the man said. “But, after I inspected it further, I saw it was $50,000.”

The 39-year-old father of three purchased the winning ticket at TJ Beer-Wine-Liquor in Takoma Park during his coffee break. He plans to pay off bills with his prize and put some of the money aside for a vacation.

TJ Beer-Wine-Liquor Liquor located at 7669 New Hampshire Ave. in Takoma Park earned a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize scratch-off in the game.
