Washington, DC-based Brazilian percussion ensemble to play August event in Hyattsville.

The revamped, relocated Hyattsville National Night Out has booked the first of two planned international-themed performance groups for the August event.

In a Facebook post distributed earlier this morning, the city of Hyattsville announced that Bloco Afro Samba Trovao would be performing at the event, set for Aug. 6.

The Afro-Brazilian percussion ensemble has been performing in the Washington, DC area for five years, according to the group's website.

Hyattsville's National Night Out recently received extra funding from the Hyattsville City Council to bring two international performance groups to the event, which is designed to foster relationships between local law enforcement agencies and the public.

The event was also moved from Magruder Park to Hamilton Street in West Hyattsville.

The changes to the event were motivated by a desire among members of the city council to keep a major city festival on the west side of town, which has seen the cancelation of the old International Festival and its unsuccessful successor, Handmade on Hamilton.
