Hyattsville Police Keep City Steady On After Quake

There were no injuries reported in Hyattsville due to the 5.9 magnitude quake or the 2.8 magnitude aftershock.

No major emergencies were reported to after , but police and other first responders were out walking beats helping to steady the minds of those evacuated after the shake.

Around the area, life seemed to get back to normal just moments after the quake. Some major structural damage was reported at the , including large floor-to-ceiling wall cracks and small concrete chunks crumbled from the parking garage.

A man from Oklahoma sped in his car northeast on Belcrest Road and peeled around the traffic circle at Mosaic. He pulled his car, with Washington state plates, to a stop just before re-entering the busy street.

After running into the building and returning to his car, the man, who was visibly shaken, told Patch that he was worried about his girlfriend who lives at Mosaic.
