Hyattsville Police Seek Suspect In String of Nighttime Breakins

Two of these have resulted in a rape, and a third incident was an attempted rape.

Since June 14, 2010, there has been an increase in the number of late night/early morning located around Ager Road, Hamilton Street, Nicholson Street and Queens Chapel Road. 

Two of these have resulted in a rape, and according to a press release from the Hyattsville Police Department.

All of the apartments were lower-level units, with access gained through a window.  Police believe the suspect may be targeting units where he expects to find a woman home alone, the release stated.

Because of the similar characteristics and suspect descriptions, the police believe all 10 incidents may be linked. The FBI is helping develop a profile of the suspect. Investigators have also worked with on this string of incidents.

The suspect is described as a slim, black male, between 18 and 30 years old with a dark complexion. Victims have seen him wearing a black or blue waist-length jacket. In every case, the victims said that the suspect wore a mask, police said.

Police also encourage all residents to secure all windows and doors at night and report any non-working pedestrian and street lights, the release stated.
