Road Work on East West Highway Nearing Completion
A state highway project at the intersection of Queens Chapel / Adelphi roads and East West Highway should be done this fall.

Work at the intersection of East West Highway and Queens Chapel/Adelphi roads should be completed this fall.
The State Highway Administration began the $1 million project in May to allow for more traffic to flow through the crossing at a faster rate, said SHA spokesman Charles Gischlar.
The intersection improvements also will increase safety by providing longer turning lanes and reducing the backups caused by left turning traffic, according to a SHA press release.

*Widening existing lanes to accommodate the new turn lanes;
*Modifying the existing concrete island in the northwest corner of the intersection because of the new lane configuration, as well as modifying the existing concrete island and sidewalk in the southeast corner of the intersection to reduce the existing curve in the right turn ramp on northbound Queens Chapel Road;
*Installing 300 feet of sidewalks along westbound East West Highway; and
*Resurfacing a half-mile segment in both directions of East West Highway and resurfacing nearly 200 foot segments along Queens Chapel/Adelphi roads.
