Employees Stop Woman Trying To Rob Kensington 7-Eleven: Police

The female robber is at large after a failed heist early Tuesday at a Kensington convenience store, say MoCo police.

KENSINGTON, MD — Montgomery County police detectives on Thursday released a surveillance video of a woman struggling with employees at a 7-Eleven convenience store in Kensington. The unidentified Hispanic woman used a fake gun in attempting to rob the store, and the police are asking for the public’s help in identifying her.

Crime Solvers of Montgomery County is offering a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this case (see video below).

At 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the report of an attempted armed robbery that had just occurred at the 7-Eleven at 3507 University Blvd. West.

The woman, who police said was holding a "replica" handgun inside a plastic bag, had walked into the store, announced the robbery to a clerk behind the counter and demanded cash from the registers.

Another employee then approached the suspect from behind and grabbed the gun out of her hand. The clerk immediately called 911 as the other employee struggled with the woman, who tried to get the gun back.

The woman then fled from the 7-Eleven without any cash, the police said. Detectives recovered the fake gun at the scene.

Based on her description, detectives believe that at about 4 a.m. Monday, the same woman attempted to rob a taxi driver in the 4000 block of Sampson Road in Veirs Mill Village.
